International Sales Manager

As the International Sales Manager, you play a critical role in our continued growth and expansion in new and developing international markets. In this high-impact function, you will define, direct and deliver on sales targets while evaluating market trends and developing astute strategies to penetrate new and evolving markets in Canada, Latin America, Europe and the Middle-East. In this capacity, you will lead a small hybrid team of Inside/ Field Sales Reps to artfully align solutions and exceed goals and client expectations. You’ll work closely with SVP of Sales and other internal stakeholders to champion company initiatives and to develop and implement sales strategies for the diverse regions of your team. As a hands-on sales leader, you will leverage your considerable experience in the education publishing space, expertise in business development, affinity for cultivating relationships, understanding client needs, strong knowledge of our suite of print and digital world-language-learning print and digital products and expertise in developing successful growth strategies to win business within international schools and universities. As a seasoned professional, you are good coach and mentor and are able to build a team of strong performers. The International Sales Manager has well-developed presentation, business development, territory management, consultative-selling and analytical skills and is able to display a high level of creativity and flexibility. Previous experience in an international sales role within ed-tech, education or publishing is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assess geographical markets to deploy market specific growth priorities in all regions globally and close business on a consistent basis to achieve sales goals; effectively manage a large base of international business
  • In conjunction with the Senior Leadership team, develop a vision and strategic plan for the global sales team based on current competitive environment, and future market trends
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans and forecasts in partnership with marketing, technology, editorial and product line owners
  • Effectively manage, coach and develop Global Sales team; includes training on presentation, solution selling, territory management and prospecting skills
  • Evaluate performance to objectives and work with product line owners, SVP of Sales,  and internal stakeholders to ensure proper and effective countermeasures are in place to meet sales targets for Global Markets
  • Develop and manage KPIs, sales funnels, sales analysis tools and other reports as necessary to effectively manage performance to monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets
  • Manage region's expense budget
  • Define roles and responsibilities, set performance and development goals, motivate and coach direct reports, implement training strategies and sales plans that motivate team execution
  • Create and deliver persuasive sales and training presentations for both our print and digital programs and in the assigned territory
  • Exhibit a consultative selling approach and an ability to customize presentation style to fit audience
  • Establishing good working relationships with educators including both current and potential customers
  • Participate in local and regional conferences, two national sales meetings and remote team meetings

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • BA/ BS degree from a 4 year accredited University or equivalent
  • Must be self-motivated and have 7+ years previous global sales experience (experience in publishing, education or ed-tech is a requirement)
  • Minimum of 3 years in a sales management role (managing and creating local and distributed teams)
  • Proven success building and developing international sales channels, plans and teams; including creating and executing strategies, evaluating and acting on market trends, and establishing sales success metrics
  • Proven success working with executive-suite and internal stakeholders to obtain buy in and establish effective sales strategies
  • Advanced skills selling/ presenting a robust suite of digital and print world-language-learning products for K-12 and higher-ed institutions; displays consultative-sales approach and is highly adaptable
  • Proven strategic planning and business leadership capabilities as well as understanding of business financial analysis
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and experience with long sales cycles
  • Strong relationship building skills, effective listening and strong collaboration skills and high degree of organizational savvy and integrity; excellent communication skills
  • Tech savvy, comfortable and experienced navigating and discussing robust technical products
  • Strong mentor and coach; able to identify, manage, develop and retain a successful sales team; able to motivate and influence others
  • Advanced Salesforce.com, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel skills
  • International travel up to 40%
  • Proficiency in French, Spanish, German or Italian a strong plus
  • Experience with world-language publishing in higher-ed or K12 is highly desired
