Modern Language Specialist
In My Words:
Learning a second language connects you to different countries and cultures. It broadens your world and enriches your life.
I consider myself a citizen of the world. I was born in Cuba and by the time I came to the United States at age 7, I had also lived in Spain and Puerto Rico. Although all three countries share a common language, I learned at an early age that each had a wonderfully distinctive culture. As a newly arrived refugee, I learned English in school but my parents made sure that I didn’t lose my native Spanish. Being bilingual is a gift!
Giving teachers the tools necessary to add to a student’s linguistic repertoire is my passion; whether they are learning English, maintaining their native/heritage language or learning a second or third language. Teachers have the power to help all students become global citizens and it’s wonderful to help them a little bit along the way!
